What do UB40 and Kool & the Gang have in common? They’ve both had top ten hits? Yup. They’re both award winners? Yes again. They’re both retro bands, i.e. from the “old days” and still going strong? Oh yes. But most importantly, they’re both holding Summer Concerts on the coast this summer organized by Rock Lounge? Yeah baby!!
Celebrating their 40th anniversary, UB40 will be live in concert in the Estepona bull ring on August 16th and just three days later, Kool & the Gang will perform all their top hits in Puente Romano Tennis Club, Marbella.
UB40, with its unique reggae-pop style was formed in the UK in 1978. The band have had more than 50 singles in the UK Singles Chart and have also achieved considerable international success. They have been nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album four times, and in 1984 were nominated for the Brit Award for Best British Group. Throughout their extensive history, UB40 have sold over 70 million records worldwide. Main hit singles include “Can’t Help Falling in Love”, “I Got You Babe” and probably the most famous “Red, Red Wine”. The band separated in 2008, but lead vocalist Ali Campbell, musician and rapper Astro and keyboardist Mickey reunited and form the group that will play the Summer Concerts in Estepona this August.
On Sunday 19th August you’ll be able to “Get Down on It” have a “Celebration” and live a memorable “Ladies Night” in the fabulous Puente Romano Tennis Club courtesy of Kool & the Gang. Formed in Jersey USA in 1964, they are an iconic soul, funk, pop band with a worldwide following and catchy hits you find yourself randomly humming. Their most successful singles include “Ladies’ Night”, “Celebration”, “Get down on It”, “Joanna” and “Cherish”. And after 54 years of performing together they’re still going strong today.
Kool & the Gang have won numerous awards including two Grammys and seven American Music Awards.
